Applications for the Future Food Design Awards 2017 are closed. You can now vote for your favorite project.


Do you have an amazing project or design that will help to advance the future of our food or turn it on its head? Then enter to compete for the very first, worldwide Future Food Design Awards, which will be presented during the 2017 Dutch Design Week! Three nominees will be selected from all the entrants. These nominees will compete for the Future Food Design Award and the audience award.

General conditions for participation

  • You must be demonstrably involved in food issues as a designer, producer, professional, student or in some other capacity.
  • You may apply on behalf of an organization, a collective, etc., as long as there is one single point of contact who will manage all communication from the start (vlog, presentation, etc.).
  • The project must be completed or if it is still ongoing you must have progressed beyond the conceptualization stage and have, for example, a prototype or a serious plan.
  • Your project may not have been initiated before 1 January 2015.
  • Preferably, you must be able to be present during the award ceremony on Thursday 26 October during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. You have to cover your own travel expenses, participation through a good internet connection is also possible.
  • Your video must be in English (subtitled) and you must understand and speak English well.
  • You must be prepared to make a second video and to mobilize your own network in service of the public campaign for the audience award.
  • The monetary prize may only be used to further develop the winning design or a relevant follow-up project.


This is what we need to receive from you:

  • A project description provided in our standard format (downloadable here)
  • A CV or a link to your LinkedIn profile (unless you’re entering as an organization)
  • Visual material such as sketches, photos, etc.

Pitch your design in a video lasting no more than three minutes, in English or with English subtitles. This may be a vlog, an animation or something else. Explain the following items in your video (not necessarily in this order):

(1) Introduce yourself and your relationship to food.
(2) Explain your design as effectively and clearly as possible and if possible show it on screen.
(3) Demonstrate how it is relevant for a sustainable and future-proof food system.
(4) Tell us why you should win, and what you want to accomplish with your design.

Deliver all your materials to using WeTransfer, before 23:59 CET on July 30 2017. You will be notified by 1 September at the latest whether you have been nominated or not. The awards ceremony will take place on October 26 during the Dutch Design Week. By entering the Future Food Design Award competition you will automatically become a member of the Dutch Institute of Food&Design!
